I have long ago returned to running and bicycling, on the daily, and I’m pretty much still faster than anyone I know! Hey, Good Times!
Military
After high school I joined the Air Force.
During my enlistment, I was assigned to USAF Space Command at Woomera, South Australia, where I worked with USAF/USN/RAAF RAA and RAN and CIA satellite ops.
Pretty much don’t ask me about any of this.
During this entire time though, I was completely fanatical about everything aviculture. I started raising birds as a volunteer at Breen Park in 1991 while at Woomera. I worked with Goliath Black Palm Cockatoos, Major Mitchell’s and Amboina Kings.
Being in Australia during the Great Wildlife Heist, I was more informed on who was smuggling wildlife, especially exotic birds, out of the country than what was being reported in the media. With what was said in Nova's article on the matter at the time, and with what I saw, what others failed to see was always hiding in plain sight. Probably don’t ask me about this one either.
Horses
In 2006, I purchased my first racehorse: Ormond, who would go on to receive the Texas Older Horse Champion Award. He would have 6 lifetime wins, with many places and shows.
In 2008 I bought: Ala Bout Me and Game Point, With 13 wins, 12 seconds 14 thirds between the two horses. They had 45 lifetime outs and rarely did either miss the board.
I got Lil Rich Girl in 2010 and she won several races for me and eventually a Stakes race in Colorado.
As I continued with racehorses, I started hunting ranches, www.facebook.com/CentralTexasBigAxisHunt and worked on healthy living. My priority, like all single parents, was to raise happy and healthy children. I did my best in that regard and I think those results speak for themselves. The kids are grown and successful adults on their own and I continue to own and train horses for the love of racing and the horses themselves.
Birds
I have been raising exotics for many years now, having even received my license (7) permit from US Fish and Wildlife to trade and raise Golden Conures, the national bird of Brazil. I wrote a thesis that deemed that parent-reared chicks housed in indoor aviaries in the colder U.S. climates could successfully proliferate by utilizing technology to simulate their natural environment. Having proven this thesis has afforded me many other opportunities as a champion avian advocate. I am currently working to dispel the myths that toys and plastics should be used in cages as enrichment, focusing more on natural habitat creation and conservation. I currently donate to Golden Conure Project and am always learning how to best support the avian industry.
That's pretty much my life story!
